When you live in the Midwest and setting the date, your first thought is a June wedding. But when you hold out until fall, you’re richly rewarded with bold colors, rich textures, vivid landscapes — and you know it – pumpkins!

Fall weddings are more budget friendly – particularly if your ceremony is outdoors. You can keep your décor to a minimum because nature does it for you!
Natural decorations work so well – from pumpkins and wheat to leaves sprinkled about the aisle. While these arrangements would look odd in the summer, they are perfect in the fall – and again, much less costly than flowers.
Items like apples, seeds, colored corn and pinecones find a place at the table. Apples are wonderful as place cards … and caramel apples make chic and crisp favors.
Autumn is a time to be unique with your food choices. Items like butternut squash soup and pumpkin risotto are favorites, and many brides select pies instead of cake … or opt for the pumpkin spice variety.
This is the perfect time to host a cider bar with all the cinnamon fixings. So unique! Pair that with the gorgeous fire pit on the outdoor terrace at the Ridge, and you have an idyllic cocktail hour or post-reception setup. Once a fall wedding became cold faster than anticipated. So the bride purchased pashminas for everyone and laid them over their seats at the ceremony.
Another bride used hay bales instead of chairs for her ceremony and draped blankets over the bales to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Color palettes for fall weddings are so classic and chic. I love these ones from The Knot.
Fall wedding photos are simply stunning! We have so many wooded grounds at the Ridge as well as a tree-edged shore line that frame every shot in gilded color. My favorite shot is when fall leaves are being showered down upon a couple. Simple beauty!
I like it when a bride wears her favorite pair of cowboy boots under her gown … or the whole bridal party does – only to reveal them in a photo. You have so many more options with wedding dresses. Now you can choose that heavier gown or the one with the sleeves you love. Of course, you can still wear the light fitted dress as well – just incorporate a lovely wrap for later in the day.
