7:45am

Hello, old friend.  I love the strategic flux I feel when deciding where to drive the ball on 5 – and which ball to tee up.  Do I scrounge around for that scuffed-up Top Flite at the bottom of my bag so it can join so many others in that massive gulch of a golf ball graveyard? My confidence gets the best of me, and I tee up a Pro V1.  R.I.P.

7:00am

For some people, Wisconsin strikes up images of Spotted Cows, Lambeau and Harleys.  Don’t get me wrong, I revere all of the above, but the things that get my chops chomping at the bit are the growing number of great golf tracks.  And my first stop after crossing the IL-WI border is always the trifecta that is Geneva National.

7:10am

If we literally play it right, in two days my buddies and I can swing all three masters’ courses – with time to spare for said Spotted Cows.  This is one such occasion.  Our sticks at the ready in the trunk, we grab some early morning breakfast burritos and hit the road. Next stop, the seemingly pearly gates of GN.

7:30am

I love the feeling when you pass the guard shack -- like we are among the elite allowed to tread Palmer, Player and Trevino’s unique designs/layouts.  Actually, this 25-year-old golf club is semi-private – so each day two courses are open to the public and one is reserved for members. Even so, the atmosphere here is always laid-back and fun. Even the driving range plays classic rock.

7:31am

So we’re cruising down the two-mile tree-lined trek that leads to the Clubhouse and it’s like Main Street USA for Disney-goers; I kid you not. Check out Player 12 on the right. That's going to be a good one.
